On March 5th 2019, a new machining centre for our production of moulded plywood parts was delivered. The new machine, weighing 18 tons, was unloaded from the truck with help of a crane and transported to its new place in the machine park at OWI’s plywood production facility in Lohr.
“A new acquisition was necessary to stay competitive on the market”, says Matthias Fischer, Technical Managing Director at OWI in Lohr.
The usage of three spindles that can work simultaneously and the additional double table design makes this CNC-machining centre very productive. This allows us to produce a lot faster. Furthermore, by using this CNC-unit our set-up times will decrease. The double table design enables alternating operation which allows continuous production as the blanks are clamped on the machining devices of table B while the machine is operating on table A. The machining devices are positioned and aligned by cylindrical pins. This reduces the set-up times to a minimum and we can fast and smoothly switch between different products.
Managing Director Fischer: “OWI plywood division is growing and this machine was acquired to prevent bottlenecks in our machining of moulded plywood parts. An identical machine will be delivered to our facility in Hungary within the next weeks.”
