Wood as a material The base Beechwood is the raw material for the rotary-cut veneers from which we manufacture moulded parts. We produce these veneers ourselves on our cutting lines. With its combination of strength and flexibility, beech has the perfect qualities for this purpose. Beech is in plentiful supply and is always sourced by us from sustainably managed, regional and mostly FSC-certified forests. Short transport routes ensure the material remains cost-effective and also result in an exemplary carbon footprint for our products.
Quality veneer Top layers of sliced veneer are used by us for various purposes. The choice is almost endless, from oak or maple to ash, cherry wood or walnut. Each customer gets to determine the specification of their product as regards strength, imagery and surface treatment (stain, varnish or oil).
Surface materials Attractive visual effects, durability and scratchproof surfaces can all be achieved through the use of cosmetic coating materials. At OWI we particularly like to use HPL and CPL.
OWI Thermoformholz® In order to make our beech veneers especially durable, we use our patented thermal tempering process. The resulting moulded parts and cladding sheets are particularly suitable for outdoor use.
Presses and CNC processing In our factories at Lohr am Main in Germany and Letenye in Hungary, we produce rotary-cut beech veneers from up to 15,000m3 of beechwood a year. Our cutting lines produce veneers in thicknesses of 0.8, 1.2, 1.5 and 2.2mm.
Depending on the use to which the product will be put, our presses are heated by steam, electricity or high frequency electricity. We have a total of 68 single-daylight and multi-daylight presses, among them machines with side pressing mechanism.
We work with 11 CNC-controlled processing machines, where we control up to five axes at once from 48 workplaces.
We adopt a zero-tolerance approach to defects. Quality increases cost-effectiveness, reduces costs and ensures competitiveness. It is not just the defects themselves that have to be addressed, but their causes. Prevention is better than cure.
Wooden moulded parts are made from natural material, which is always subject to variation in quality. As components of furniture systems, our products are subject to downward pressures on price as well as exacting demands in terms of tolerance, surface quality and texture. We reconcile these seemingly conflicting demands by talking to our customers in detail in the early stages of a project and agreeing with them what the options are.
Once CNC processing is complete, we carry out a range of processes, from sanding and assembly to the creation of the finished, installation-ready product. These processes are carried out by hand at our Hungarian plant by highly experienced craftsmen.
We also offer surface processing for moulded parts. Using the latest facilities, we can offer staining, varnishing or oiling.
